# External reviewer access

> Invite an external reviewer, assign promotions, and complete reviews from the restricted external queue.

External reviewer access lets someone outside your organisation review only the promotions assigned to them. Use it when a partner, agency, bank, or other third party must approve content before it can progress.

<Info>
  External reviewer access is an add-on feature. Speak to your Adclear contact to have it enabled for your organisation.

External Reviewer and External Uploader are separate roles. An External Uploader submits their own promotions. An External Reviewer approves promotions submitted by other people.

<Warning>
  Each organisation member has one role at a time. Changing an External Uploader to External Reviewer removes their uploader experience for that organisation.
</Warning>

## Set up an external reviewer

You need permission to manage team roles before you can complete these steps.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Team Members">
    Go to **Settings > Organisation > Team Members**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Invite the reviewer">
    Select **Invite team members**, enter their email address, and choose **External Reviewer**. Adclear sends an invitation by email.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for them to accept">
    The person appears as a pending member until they accept the invitation and sign in. They must become an active member before you can set their review permissions.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open Review Permissions">
    Go to **Settings > Workspace > Compliance > Review Permissions**. Switch to the workspace where the reviewer will work and find their email address. If they are not listed, return to **Team Members** and add the active member to that workspace.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Grant jurisdictions">
    Set **Reviewable Jurisdictions** to the countries the person may review. You can only assign them promotions for those jurisdictions.

    If they need to review promotions without a country, select **All Jurisdictions**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Adclear displays external reviewers by email address. The email domain helps your team distinguish people from different partner organisations.

## Assign an external reviewer

Choose between direct assignment and a reviewer preset.

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Direct assignment">
    Open the promotion and select the external reviewer's email in the reviewer field. The reviewer receives the normal assignment notification, and the promotion appears in their queue.

    The reviewer must have permission for the promotion's jurisdiction. Adclear blocks the assignment if the jurisdiction does not match.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Reviewer preset">
    Open **Settings > Workspace > Compliance > Reviewer Presets** and add an **External Reviewer** step to a sequential or parallel flow.

    Save the preset with the **External Reviewer** role. A preset defines the role and step order, but it does not store named reviewers.

    When you apply the preset to a promotion, expand the External Reviewer group and select one or more named external reviewers. **Anyone in role** is unavailable because access must always come from an explicit assignment.

    Each selected reviewer must have permission for the promotion's jurisdiction. See [Multi-level approval](/multi-level-approval) for the full preset workflow.
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

Internal users can reassign the reviewer or change the review flow using the same controls they use for internal reviewers. An external reviewer cannot reassign the promotion or edit its review flow.

## Complete an external review

After accepting the invitation, the external reviewer signs in to Adclear and follows these steps.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Promotions">
    The Promotions page is your review queue. It shows your current and earlier review assignments.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find the promotion">
    Search by title or filter by status. The queue also shows the promotion ID, deadline, and current status.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the promotion">
    Select a row or choose **View details** from its actions menu.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review the available context">
    Read the promotion, AI findings, claims, and comments available on the assigned promotion. Add a comment when the internal team needs more detail.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Record a decision">
    Choose **Approve**, **Reject**, or **Request Changes**. Add the required reason or comment when prompted.
  </Step>
</Steps>

In a sequential preset, an approval moves the promotion to the next step. In a parallel preset, every required reviewer must approve before the promotion is fully approved. See [Review decisions](/compliance/review-decisions) for decision guidance.

## What an external reviewer can access

| Can access                                        | Cannot access                               |
| ------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------- |
| Promotions assigned to them | Promotions that were never assigned to them |
| Review context on an assigned promotion | Organisation or workspace settings |
| Comments on an assigned promotion | Policies, metrics, or team management |
| Review decision controls during their active step | Reviewer assignment or review-flow controls |

Access remains scoped to explicit assignments. Adding someone to the External Reviewer role does not give them access to every promotion in the organisation.
