# Escalations

> Escalate a Rejected or Changes Needed decision for risk acceptance review.

## Overview

If you've received a Rejected or Changes Needed decision and you believe the risk should be accepted rather than the content changed, you can escalate the decision for risk acceptance review.

Risk acceptance is reviewed by an Uploader user with Risk Accepting permissions (typically a senior member of the marketing or commercial team who has been granted the right to accept risk on behalf of the organisation).

<Note>
  This option is only available if risk acceptance is enabled in your workspace. If you don't see the option, it isn't part of your configured workflow. Speak to your workspace admin if you think it should be enabled.
</Note>

## How to escalate

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the relevant promotion">
    Find the promotion in your tasks (it will be in Rejected or Changes Needed status).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Go to the Info tab">
    Open the Info tab on the promotion page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Initiate the escalation">
    Trigger the escalation from the Info tab. The promotion status changes to Escalated, then Reviewing Risk once the relevant user picks it up.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for the response">
    The Uploader user with Risk Accepting permissions reviews the request and responds via comment. Their response is prefixed with "Risk Acceptance:" so it's easy to identify.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What happens next

The full status flow for risk acceptance is: Rejected or Changes Needed → Escalated → Reviewing Risk → Risk Accepted.

If the risk is accepted, the promotion moves to Risk Accepted and is cleared for use under risk acceptance, with a full audit trail attached.

## Escalation versus reviewer escalation

The escalation flow above is initiated by the uploader to push a decision up to risk acceptance. This is different from escalations a reviewer might raise to legal or specialist input during their own review. That flow is covered in the Compliance User Guide.
