Overview
Google Drive import lets you bring a file into Adclear from Google Drive or Google Docs, instead of downloading it and re-uploading it. Paste a share link and Adclear pulls the file straight into a promotion so you can finish the details and submit.Available now: importing public “anyone with the link” files. No Google sign-in needed.Coming soon: connecting your Google account to import private files or files shared with you, and browsing your Drive with the Google Picker. This is pending Google’s review of Drive access.
Paste a link
Paste a Google Drive or Docs share link into the Google Drive tab on a new promotion.
Public links, no sign-in
Public “anyone with the link” files import without connecting a Google account.
Connect your account
Coming soon. Sign in to Google once to import private files or files shared with you.
Read-only access
Adclear only ever reads Drive. It never edits, moves, or deletes anything.
Import a file
1
Open the New Promotion page
Go to Promotions and start a new promotion.
2
Choose Google Drive
Select the Google Drive tab. A Google Docs link works here too.
3
Paste a public share link
Paste a Drive or Docs “anyone with the link” share link. (Connecting your Google account for private or shared files, plus the Browse button that opens the Google Picker, is coming soon.)
4
Click Import
Adclear pulls the file in. Large files take a moment.
5
Create and submit
Once the import completes, finish the promotion fields and click Create Promotion, then Submit for Review when ready.
Import a document with tabs
If a Google Doc uses document tabs, Adclear detects them on import and shows a tab picker. You no longer import the whole document with each tab title on its own page. Every tab appears as a card with a preview of its first page. Select the tabs you want, then import them.1
One tab
Select a single tab and click Import this tab. It becomes one promotion.
2
Several tabs
Select two or more tabs, then choose how they come in. Import as single combines the selected tabs into one promotion. Import as variants brings in each tab as a separate variant of one promotion.
Updating a promotion from Google Drive
When a promotion was imported from Google Drive, you can pull the latest version of the source file back in as a new version, with no re-downloading or re-uploading. This suits the draft-then-review loop: edit the Doc in Google, then bring the updated content into Adclear as V2, V3, and so on.1
Open the promotion
Open a promotion that was imported from Google Drive. A sync pill appears in the promotion header, coloured by the current sync state. Adclear checks the file automatically when you open the promotion:
- In sync — the file hasn’t changed since the last import.
- Update available — the file has changed in Google.
2
Update
Click the pill and choose Check for updates (the option names the app the file came from, so a Doc reads Check Google Docs for updates). Adclear re-checks the file, then:
- Up to date — nothing to import; no version is created.
- Changes found — a confirmation appears naming the last editor. Confirm to import the current content as a new version.
3
New version is created
Adclear pulls the current file in, attaches it as the next version, carries over the promotion’s settings (caption, details, promotion type, deadline, linked claims, and target markets), and re-runs the evaluation automatically. You’re taken to the new version when it’s ready.
Change detection needs the file’s revision information, which Adclear records at import time. Files imported before this feature shipped, and some public links, have no recorded revision — for those the pill shows a neutral grey state, and updating asks you to confirm the import since Adclear can’t tell whether the file changed. The first re-import records the revision, and the promotion gets exact detection from then on.
Adclear always imports the file’s current content. It can’t import an older revision of a Google Doc, and it still never writes anything back to your Drive.
Pasting a Google Drive link elsewhere
If you paste a Google Drive or Google Docs link into the general link field (the one used for website screenshots), Adclear now recognises it and imports the file directly instead of taking a picture of the Drive page. To import a Drive file, prefer the Google Drive tab — but a pasted Drive link will route to the importer wherever you enter it.Connect your Google account
Coming soon. Connecting a Google account (needed for private files or files shared with you, and for browsing your Drive with the Picker) is being enabled as Google completes its review of Drive access. Until then, use public “anyone with the link” files, which need no connection.
Supported file types
Native Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides are converted to PDF on import, and Drawings are converted to PNG. Office files such as
.docx, .xlsx, and .pptx, archives such as .zip, and other file types are not supported. Save or export to a supported format first.Files above the size limit for their type are rejected with a clear message. Exported Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides are not size-checked (their exported size isn’t known up front).
Which links work
- Public (“anyone with the link”). ✅ Available now. Imports without connecting a Google account. (Public Google Docs/Sheets/Slides need nothing; public Drive files also need your workspace’s Google API key configured.)
- Private (your own files). Coming soon. Will require your connected Google account.
- Shared with you. Coming soon. Will require your connected Google account (shared directly, or via a shared drive you belong to).
Notes and limits
- Today, only public links import. Private and shared files need the connected-account path (coming soon).
- Large files may take a moment to pull in.
- Adclear uses read-only Drive access. It never writes back to your Drive.
Troubleshooting
The file won't import
The file won't import
Right now only public “anyone with the link” files import. Confirm the link’s sharing is set to “anyone with the link”. Importing private or shared files needs the connected-account path, which is coming soon.
Format not supported
Format not supported
Check the file type against the table above. Office files (
.docx, .xlsx, .pptx) and archives (.zip) are not supported. Export to a supported format, or open it as a Google Doc and let Adclear export it to PDF.I don't see the Google Drive tab
I don't see the Google Drive tab
The feature is rolling out gradually. If you don’t see the Google Drive tab on a new promotion, it may not be turned on for your workspace yet. Contact support if you need it.
